The troop maintains a library in which it keeps many merit badge books which scouts can borrow. In addition, books may be purchased at either one of the Boy Scout shops. Certain merit badges are required in order to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout. Up to and including the First Class Scout Rank, the advancement is based mainly on learning skills. The next three ranks emphasize leadership positions, and earning merit badges. As a First Class scout, he will need to earn 6 merit badges, 4 of which will be ones required for Eagle. As a Star Scout, he will need to earn 5 more merit badges, 3 of which will be ones required for Eagle. As a Life Scout, he will need to earn 10 more merit badges, 5 of which will be ones required for Eagle. A scout can begin working on merit badges as soon as he becomes a scout and is encouraged to do so. He does not have to wait until he achieves the First Class Rank. A scout is expected to make contact with a merit badge counselor when he wants to begin a merit badge. We have some merit badge counselors in house, some merit badge counselors are outside of our troop. To find a merit badge counselor, click here. The merit badges that a scout must complete for his Eagle Rank are:
